Common mistakes and their fixes

Joining rounds instead of working spiral
Every piece here is continuous spiral, not joined rounds — skip the slip stitch and chain, and move a stitch marker up one stitch at the start of each new round instead.
Using the wrong hook on horns
Keep the 2mm hook strictly for the horns worked in JEANS #62 and return to 4mm for every other piece, since mixing them up throws off the proportion between horns and head.

Tail

Use body color yarn.

Row 1: ch 10

Round 2

Starting in 2nd ch from hook, work 9 hdc along the chain. At the end of the tail, create a tassel using the hoof color yarn (DOLCE #765) and attach it to the tip of the tail.

Assembly, in order

Step 1Snout: Sew the snout to the front of the body, centered. Once attached, use a yarn needle threaded with the snout yarn to pull through the snout at two points, pulling slightly to indent nostril shapes.
Step 2Eyes: Position safety eyes or sew-on eyes above the snout. Apply craft glue to the back of the lashes and press them firmly onto the eyes. Allow to dry completely.
Step 3Ears: Sew the flat edge of each ear to the top sides of the body, approximately two rounds from the top center.
Step 4Horns: Attach the horns between or just above the ears, angling them outward slightly for a natural look.
Step 5Arms: Sew the flat edge of each arm to the upper sides of the body, just below the neck area.
Step 6Legs: Sew the legs to the underside of the body, evenly spaced, so the bull sits upright.
Step 7Tail: Sew the tail to the back lower section of the body.
Step 8Finishing details: Embroider eyebrows above the eyes using a contrasting yarn. Optionally glue or sew a small decorative flower to the mouth area or one of the ears.

Check these before you start

  • No round is joined anywhere in this pattern — keep a stitch marker moving up through every piece, since losing the round start is easy over a 31-round body.
  • Stuff each piece firmly and evenly as the rounds progress rather than waiting until the end, especially on the legs, which stay small and double as the hooves.
  • This pattern uses US crochet terminology throughout.

Set-up

  • Confirm yarn on hand: DOLCE #748 for the body, DOLCE #741 as contrast, DOLCE #765 for hooves, and JEANS #62 for the horns, so no part stalls mid-round.
  • Set aside stitch markers for every piece — rounds are continuous spiral with no joining, so a marker is the only way to track where each round starts.
  • Work a quick gauge swatch at 10 sc x 11 rows per 4 inches with DOLCE yarn and the 4mm hook before starting the body, since the shaping assumes that density; exact gauge is not critical for amigurumi.

Finishing

  1. Finish stuffing each piece firmly, then close the opening using the working yarn tail and a yarn needle before setting it aside for assembly.
  2. Sew the finished pieces onto the body in order — snout first, then eyes, ears, horns, arms, legs, and tail — using matching thread and a yarn needle so no seam shows.

Construction

The body's opening rounds follow a doubling increase from 6 to 12 to 18 stitches over the first three rounds, the standard amigurumi curve that sets the rounded base before the straight rounds begin.

Time per section

Bodyabout 1.5 to 2 hours because it runs 31 rounds with early increases and needs firm stuffing throughout
Horns (both)about 45 to 60 minutes because each of the two horns runs 16 rounds on a small 2mm hook with standard-weight yarn

Common questions

Why does this pattern call for two different hook sizes?
The body, snout, ears, arms, and legs use a 4mm hook with bulky DOLCE plush yarn, while the horns use a 2mm hook with standard-weight JEANS yarn. The smaller hook keeps the horns narrow and firm against the plush of the head.
Why mark the start of every round instead of joining?
All pieces are worked in continuous spiral with no slip-stitch join, so a stitch marker is the only way to know where a round begins. This matters most on the 31-round body, where losing track would be easy without one.
