What the sample was worked in. Any weight works; the size moves with it.
Each one is typed out whole and gets its own line.
This cherry works up in continuous rounds from a magic ring, growing from 6 stitches to 18 single crochet at its widest before decreasing back down and closing. A green chain stem is knotted through the center once the body is shaped, and light stuffing gives the finished piece its round form. A matching ribbon bow is tied directly onto the headphones and trimmed to size, so the crocheted cherry hangs as a charm alongside it. Before starting, have a 2mm hook, small amounts of red and green 4-ply milk yarn, a stitch marker, scissors, a needle, and stuffing within reach — the whole piece is worked in one sitting.

To the length equal to the desired length of the bow's ribbon. Secure the end and cut, leaving a tail.

Wrap yarn over your finger to create a loop and an X shape, insert the hook under both loops, yarn over (pull loop through), then yarn over again and pull through to complete the magic ring.
In the ring, do 6 single crochets (sc). Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch.
Work 6 sc increase (2 sc in each stitch) around. Close with a slip stitch and chain 1.

The increase happens in two stages rather than one: a plain increase round takes the stitch count from 6 to 12, then an alternating sc-and-increase round spreads the next increase evenly to reach 18, spacing the shaping so the body rounds out smoothly instead of forming a point.
Each round closes with a slip stitch and chain 1 rather than working in a true spiral, which gives a clear checkpoint to confirm the stitch count before starting the next round.
| Magic ring and increase rounds | about 15 minutes because the stitch count changes twice in quick succession, from 6 to 12 to 18 |
|---|---|
| Plain rounds at 18 stitches | about 15 minutes because these rounds are worked even and go quickly once the count is set |
| Decrease round, stuffing, and stem | about 15-20 minutes because stuffing must happen while the round is closing and the stem is attached and knotted afterward |
