Each one is typed out whole and gets its own line.

This is a removable raglan dress built top-down in one piece over 15 rounds, worked mostly in half double crochet with four raglan corners that shape the shoulders. The piece starts as a flat chain and grows outward until one round joins both underarms, splitting the work toward body and sleeves. Have your 2.5 mm hook, Magic Baby Joy yarn, buttons, ribbon, a needle, and scissors on hand, and keep a toy nearby to check fit as the rounds build. The front closes with buttons, so plan button placement before the last rounds.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Losing track of raglan placement
Place a stitch marker in each of the four raglan stitches right after round 1, and move the markers up each round so the corners are always visible.
Misreading the round 5 join
Work round 5 slowly and recount after each connected raglan, since the stitch count changes from a steady increase pattern to a sudden drop.
Buttons placed after the dress is finished
Mark the button line on the front opening before round 12, so spacing stays even instead of crowded or uneven after the fact.

Key to this pattern, 6 short forms

Main Pattern

Chain the number of stitches necessary for your toy; subtract 6 stitches from the resulting number — 4 stitches go to the corners of the square where the raglan will be, 2 stitches at the beginning of crocheting, and the remaining stitches are distributed to the shoulders, back, and belly (example uses 36 ch, remaining 30 ch).

Periodically try on the dress to see where increases are needed and where they are not, since density, yarn, and hook size differ for everyone.

The dress is removable and fastened at the front with buttons.

Pattern designed for a toy about 33-34 cm tall.

Assembly, in order

Step 1Decorate with ribbons, frills.
Step 2Attach a ribbon belt and buttons for fastening at the front.

Check these before you start

  • Hold tension loosely through the raglan corners; four stitches crowd into one point each round, and tight tension there will pull the shoulders out of shape.
  • Count stitches at the end of every round against the number given, since a missed raglan increase in rounds 1 through 4 will not surface until round 5's join.
  • Try the dress on the toy periodically rather than trusting the written counts alone, since density and hook pressure vary enough to shift fit.

Set-up

  • Check that your toy's chest and shoulder width match the chain-36 base, or recalculate using the subtract-six-stitches rule given in the pattern notes.
  • Mark the four raglan positions in round 1 before working round 2, since every later round builds directly off those corners.
  • Prepare the buttons and ribbon now, since the front opening and belt are planned from round 1 onward, not added at the end.
  • Read round 5 before starting it, since this is where the raglan corners connect for the first time and the stitch count drops sharply.

Finishing

  1. Weave in the starting tail from round 1 and the ending tail from round 12 along the inside seam line so neither shows at the front opening.
  2. Attach the ribbon belt and sew on the buttons at the front edge to complete the closure.
  3. Add the ribbon and frill decoration last, once the dress has been test-fitted and the button placement confirmed.

Construction

The four raglan corners placed in round 1 (after 5, 5, 10, and 5 hdc groups) stay in the same relative positions through round 4, which is how the piece grows evenly across shoulders, back, and belly without reshaping.

Round 5 drops from 98 to 56 stitches because two of the raglan corners are connected directly rather than increased, which is the point where sleeves separate from the body.

Time per section

Rounds 1-4 (shoulder and raglan setup)about 45-60 minutes because four raglan corners need careful placement and counting
Round 5 (raglan join)about 20-30 minutes because the stitch count drops from 98 to 56 and demands close attention
Rounds 6-12 and finishingabout 2.5-3.5 hours because of the remaining seven rounds plus ribbon, button, and belt attachment

Common questions

Can the chain base be resized for a different toy?
Yes. Chain the number of stitches needed for the toy, subtract six for the four raglan corners and two starting stitches, then distribute the rest across shoulders, back, and belly as in the 36-chain example.
Why does round 5 have a different stitch count pattern?
Round 5 is where two raglan corners are joined rather than increased, which separates the sleeve from the body and drops the count from 98 to 56.
How does the dress stay on the toy?
It is removable and closes at the front with buttons, with a ribbon belt added at the waist during finishing.
