What the sample was worked in. Any weight works; the size moves with it.

Each one is typed out whole and gets its own line.

This mini tulip in a pot is built in three separate pieces: a flower top worked from a magic ring with two rounds of increases, a pot worked from its own magic ring through a run of increase and plain rounds, and a pair of wired leaves worked flat along a length of chain. Have both pieces of yarn, a length of 15 cm wire, and a yarn needle ready before you start, since the leaves are reinforced as you crochet them rather than after. The finished piece stands upright on its own and sits well on a shelf or desk.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Magic ring pulls loose later
Pull the tail firm before the first sl st and check it again after the next round; a ring that loosens later leaves a visible hole at the center.
Losing count across increase rounds
Place a marker in the first stitch of every round in Part 2, since the stitch counts climb quickly from 7 to 28 and a missed increase throws off the whole round.
Wire slips while crocheting the leaves
Hold the wire flush against the chain as you work each stitch over it, and check after a few stitches that it hasn't shifted out of the crochet.

Insert a 15 cm wire and crochet around it.

In the second chain from the hook: make 1 sc.

In the next chain: make 1 hdc.

In the next 7 chains: make 1 hdc in each.

In the final 2 chains: make 1 sc in each.

Ch 2 and make another sc in the same stitch.

Work your way back

1 sc in the next stitch.

1 hdc in each of the next 8 stitches.

1 sc in the last stitch.

Sl st to the first stitch and fasten off.

Wrap yarn around the wire to cover it.

Make two leaves total.

Assembling the Tulip Apply glue to the wire and wrap green yarn around it to form the branch.

Insert the wire through the tulip bud's center and secure with hot glue.

Continue wrapping yarn down the stem for 3–4 cm.

Attach leaves to the branch and wrap yarn over them to secure.

Apply glue to the end and finish wrapping yarn neatly.

Check these before you start

  • Keep tension firm and even through the increase rounds on both the flower and the pot, since loose stitches will show as gaps once the piece is stuffed or shaped.
  • A stitch marker on the first stitch of each round in Part 2 helps you track the plain rounds (rows 6-11) without losing count.
  • The leaves are crocheted directly around the wire, so choose a hook size that lets the stitches sit snugly against it without the wire showing through.

Set-up

  • Set aside a 15 cm length of floral or craft wire for the leaves before you pick up the hook.
  • Read through the Part 2 increase rounds (7 to 28 stitches) once so the jump from round to round makes sense mid-row.
  • Work a quick magic ring and 6 sc test if you have not closed a magic ring tightly before — the tail needs to pull flush.
  • Decide on a flower color and a pot color now, since the pattern is written to be customized between the two.

Finishing

  1. Fasten off the pot with a long tail as instructed, then weave in the tail and the starting tail on the inside where they won't show.
  2. Weave in all remaining ends from the flower and leaf pieces, trimming close once each is secure.
  3. Set the leaves into position against the stem and pot, then attach the flower on top to complete the piece.

Construction

The flower's increases are spaced evenly across each round — 6 to 12, then 1 sc plus 1 increase repeated 6 times to reach 18 — so the shape widens gradually rather than flaring at one point.

The leaves are worked flat along a straight chain of 12 with wire inserted as you go, which lets them hold a curved or bent shape once finished instead of lying flat like the crocheted rounds.

Time per section

Main Pattern (flower)about 30-45 minutes because it runs 6 rounds with two increase rounds to track
Part 2 (pot)about 1-1.5 hours because 5 distinct rounds build up to 28 stitches before the plain rounds repeat
Leavesabout 30-45 minutes because working stitches around the wire is slower than plain crochet

Common questions

Can you use a different hook than what is suggested?
Yes, as long as the stitches stay tight enough to hide stuffing or wire. A slightly smaller hook than usual for the yarn weight keeps the amigurumi fabric dense.
What happens if the wire shows through the leaf stitches?
This usually means the hook is too large for the yarn and wire combination. Drop down a hook size so the stitches close more fully around the wire.
Do the flower and pot need to match in color?
No, the pattern is written to be customized by swapping either color. Choose any combination that fits the space the finished piece will sit in.
